Production of interleukin-18 in human tuberculosis.
To investigate the role of interleukin (IL)-18 in human tuberculosis, IL-18 production was evaluated in blood and at the site of disease in patients with tuberculosis. Mycobacterium tuberculosis-stimulated peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) from tuberculosis patients secreted less IL-18 and interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma) than did PBMC from healthy persons reactive to tuberculin. M. tubercu...
متن کاملDetection of echovirus 18 in human breast milk.
We detected enteroviral RNA and cultured infectious virus from a series of banked breast milk samples from the mother of an infant with neonatal sepsis; sequencing of the enterovirus isolate identified it as echovirus type 18. In this case, it is possible that enterovirus transmission occurred through the breast milk.
متن کاملInterleukin 18
Interleukin-18 (IL-18), a recently described member of the IL-1 cytokine superfamily, is now recognized as an important regulator of innate and acquired immune responses. IL-18 is expressed at sites of chronic inflammation, in autoimmune diseases, in a variety of cancers, and in the context of numerous infectious diseases. This short review will describe the basic biology of IL-18 and thereafte...
متن کاملTargeting interleukin 18 with interleukin 18 binding protein.
A novel, constitutively expressed and secreted interleukin 18 (IL18) binding protein (IL18BP) neutralises IL18. IL18BP shares many characteristics with soluble cytokine receptors of the IL1 family in that the protein exhibits specificity for IL18, belongs to the immunoglobulin-like class of receptors and has limited amino acid sequences with those of the IL1 receptor type II. However, unlike so...
متن کاملMaternal milk regulation of cell infiltration and interleukin 18 in the intestine of suckling rat pups.
BACKGROUND and aims: In neonates the gastrointestinal tract is exposed to food and bacterial antigens at a time when the gut mucosal immune system has not developed the ability to induce oral tolerance. This increases the risk for an inappropriate immune response to oral antigens. Transforming growth factor beta (TGF-beta) is an immunoregulatory cytokine present in high concentration in materna...
